TCWIB is part of the statewide Pennsylvania STEM Initiative. The Pennsylvania STEM Initiative is a statewide effort within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, designed to create the foundation for the state’s future competitiveness by establishing a network of partners and programs that support the development and deployment of science, technology, engineering and mathematics education and workforce development. Regionally, TCWIB belongs to the Northwest Pennsylvania STEM Network that was formally established in April of 2008. The twelve-county region convenes educators, workforce/economic development organizations, businesses and government with a common interest in addressing the need for an increased focus on education and training opportunities in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and math. The Northwest PA STEM Network has partnered with local Intermediate Units, Regional Career Education Partnerships, Industry Partnerships and other STEM-focused programs. Individuals in Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Forest, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, and Warren counties are convened in the region to collaborate and share programs that will expand options for students to acquire STEM literacy to prepare them for high-demand, high-skill, high-wage careers. In addition, many local STEM-related activities and camps for youth are supported by TCWIB.
