Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Emergency Contingency Funds (Ways to Work – Summer Work Experiences) Request for Proposals available for download


The Tri-County Workforce Investment Board (TCWIB) a consortium of Butler, Armstrong, and Indiana Counties, is seeking proposals for work experience programs and services for youth ages 16-18 that are economically disadvantaged.  The TCWIB seeks programs that utilize creative and productive approaches to meaningful summer work experiences in either individual placements, team based projects, and/or other innovative work experience programs.  TCWIB plans to fund proposals for programs beginning in June 21, 2010 and ending August 13, 2010.  Specifications regarding this Request for Proposals are available by following this link:

TCWIB is now RECEIVING PETITIONS TO ADD OCCUPATIONS TO OUR REGIONAL HIGH PRIORITY OCCUPATION (HPO) LIST FOR PROGRAM YEAR 2010.

Please complete the “Regional HPO Petition” and forward to Melinda Schultheis, TCWIB, Inc. 112 Hollywood Drive, Suite #201, Butler, PA  16001 – o­n or before May 10, 2010.

If you are completing the application for New Job Opportunities:   Please note that you will need letters of support from a minimum of three businesses that will have a total number of job openings (for the SOC petitioned) that meets or exceeds (TCWIB’S THRESHOLD IS 35 JOB OPENINGS PER YEAR) for each of the next five years.

 Attach letters of support from each of the employers documenting their business opportunities.  

PETITIONS MUST BE RECEIVED o­n OR BEFORE:  MAY 10, 2010

TCWIB BOARD WILL REVIEW PETITIONS AT THE MAY 21, 2010, BOARD MEETING.

BOARD APPROVED PETITIONS WILL BE FORWARDED TO THE STATE o­n OR BEFORE JUNE 1, DEADLINE.

Petitions received after May 10, 2010, will not be reviewed until the next full board meeting o­n July 16, 2010.

The Tri-County Workforce Investment Board (TCWIB), serving Butler, Armstrong and Indiana Counties, is having a public meeting o­n September 18, 2009 at 11 AM at the Belmont Complex, 415 Butler Rd, Kittanning, PA 16201. The WIA and ARRA workforce development services and strategies for the local area will be discussed.  

TCWIB is a 501c3 non-profit agency charged with the oversight of WIA, ARRA, and other workforce funding and programs as identified in the Act and by the Commonwealth.

Copies of the workforce plan are available for review o­n the TCWIB website www.tricountywib.org. Questions may be sent to TCWIB, 112 Hollywood Drive, Suite 201, Butler, PA 16001.

TCWIB LOCAL PLAN MODIFICATION – 30 DAY PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD
Aug 10, 2009
     The Tri-County Workforce Investment Board, a consortium of the Counties of Butler, Armstrong and Indiana, o­n behalf of the Boards of County Commissioners, intends to file a Local Plan Modification for the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) in accordance with the Commonwealth’s guidance for plans under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998.

     The Local Plan has been developed through consultation with the Boards of County Commissioners of Butler, Armstrong and Indiana and will be approved by the Local Workforce Investment Board.

Tri-County Workforce Investment Board, Inc. Awards Bidders for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 Summer Youth Employment Programs

     At the May 22, 2009 TCWIB Board meeting, the Board approved Summer Youth Employment program proposals submitted by Career T.R.A.C.K., Inc. and Family-Life Media-Com., Inc. Below are short descriptions of the programs.

     Career T.R.A.C.K., Inc. will provide internships/office work experience opportunities for 36 youth ages 16-24. Emphasis will be focused o­n placing youth in the TCWIB designated high growth career areas. These work experiences will utilize both non-profit and for-profit worksites. Career T.R.A.C.K., Inc. will also provide team based work experience and adult mentoring to 24 youth ages 16-24 in the form of work crews. The crews will participate in community based projects learning occupational skills and how to function as a member of a team.

     Family-Life Media-Com., Inc. will provide 12 participants, ages 16-24, a work experience Monday through Thursday in o­ne of the high demand career areas of the tri-county area. Life strategy workshops will be held o­n Fridays to enhance work readiness skills and coach participants in personal effectiveness skills.
